Harlequin, bred by Livanti Alpacas.
| Stocking Rate | Five per acre, this should be reduced if necessary during winter or when grass is low. |
|---|---|
| Feeding | Alpacas mostly eat grass and hay plus fresh water. Appropriate vitamin and mineral supplements can also be provided. Alpacas are browsers, eating trees and shrubs within their reach and can live on hilly and relatively sparse pasture. |
| Alpaca Welfare | Alpacas are herd animals. No respectable owner/breeder will sell you an Alpaca that is to live on its own. You need two or preferably three Alpacas. |
| Care and Vaccinations | Alpacas are robust however, they need water, shelter
and like all livestock, you need to check them each day. There are
routine care regimes and, pregnant females and young (cria) will need
additional attention. Depending on your pasture and stocking rates, your Alpacas will need regular worming and vaccinations to prevent Clostridial and other diseases. |
| Shearing | Once a year usually in May/June. |
| Toenail Trimming | Three or four times a year. If kept on soft ground, Alpacas may require more frequent attention. |
